Second Lieutenant, 788th Bomber Squadron, 467th Bomber Group (Heavy), U.S. Army Air Forces. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; and the World War II Victory Medal.

Lt. Roden was a B-24 bomber pilot stationed at Rackheath Air Field, England. He was killed when his aircraft was shot down while returning from a mission over Hamm, Germany. German fighters had followed the group of 28 aircraft back to England and, as they made their approach for a night landing, shot down two aircraft killing 17 crew members and one airman on the ground.
