Ella Mae Chitek, 96, of Sauk City passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Middleton Village Rehabilitation Center. Ella was born on August 24, 1916 in Lima, Grant County, to Hugh and Anna (Bordson) Heiney. In 1918, she and her family moved to Sauk City where she lived until 2011. Her childhood memories were shared with family and friends who enjoyed hearing about her mischievious escapades with her sister, Helen. Ella worked with her father at the Black Earth Creamery in the 1930's. She married Frank Chitek on May 20, 1937 in Prairie du Sac. He died on December 19, 1991.

While raising her family, Ella worked at the Sauk City Canning Company and later at the Madison Street School serving lunches to the students that she so enjoyed. She loved dancing, especially square dancing and she and Frank regularly attended many area dances. She also loved to write jingles and entered many contests which she actually won. She enjoyed baking and always had fresh cookies for all who visited.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters; Helen and Carrie and two brothers; Hugh and Orville.

Ella was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend who will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her.

Entombment will be held later at Resurrection Cemetery, Madison.
