Ray E. Anway, 69, of Bovey, formerly of Byron, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.

Ray was born Dec. 2, 1942, in Kalmar Township to Donald and Harriette Anway. Ray married Marilyn Wagner on June 8, 1963, in Kasson. Ray grew up working on a dairy farm, helping his parents with livestock and field work. While attending Byron High School, he also worked at the turkey farm. Ray was active in sports during his high school years. He graduated in 1960 from Byron High School.

After high school, he drove semi, hauling livestock for Gronvold Trucking. He attended Austin Vocational School for two years before being hired at IBM Rochester. Ray also delivered fuel for Tlougan Oil Company part-time. Ray retired as a computer specialist from IBM with 30 years of service in 1991.

He was a member of the Rochester Retirees Club. Together with his wife, he began Countryside Concrete Lawn Ornaments. Their two sons also helped with the business, which was sold after 12 years. After retiring from IBM, Ray drove a Byron school bus route for five years. For four years, Ray was a volunteer campground host for the U.S. Forest Service in the Chippewa National Forest.

Ray and his wife moved to northern Minnesota 14 years ago.

Ray enjoyed hunting ducks, pheasants, turkeys, grouse and deer. Ray enjoyed snowmobiling with his family. Ray especially enjoyed the family trips to Utah and Idaho, ATV riding. He seemed to have a built-in G.P.S. ability that was beneficial on the ATV rides. Ray was happy ATV riding in the local forests near their home in northern Minnesota. For one year, he was president of the Range Riders ATV Club.

Ray is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn; his two sons, Thomas (Darlene) of Park City, Utah, and Daniel of Byron. Ray is also survived by his two sisters, Judy (Ralph) Crandall of Kasson and Mary Catlin of Rochester; and one brother, James (Pat) Anway of Dexter.

There will be a visitation Thursday, Sept. 6, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Byron United Methodist Church, 507 First Ave. N.W., in Byron, and also one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday. There will be no reviewal.

A memorial service will be held at Byron United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, with Pastor Sharon Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Center Grove Cemetery in Douglas.

There will be a memorial service in Bovey at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to Seasons Hospice of Rochester.
