Professional Football Player. Born George Michael Savitsky, he was raised in South New Jersey where he attended Camden High School. Following two years of service with the United States Marine Corps, he played collegiate football at the University of Pennsylvania and distinguished himself at the tackle position, as he earned All-American honors four-times. This was the first time since 1900 that this feat was accomplished in collegiate football. In addition, he was a participant in the Shrine East-West Game three-times. He was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles during the 3rd round of the 1947 NFL Draft and played in 24 regular season games. The two years in which Savitsky played for the Eagles (1948 to 1949), happened to be two of the greatest years in the franchise's history, as he contributed to two consecutive world championships both those years. During that period, he attained his medical degree from Penn Medical School and practiced oral surgery for nearly 40-years. He was enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1991 and was named to the Penn Athletics Hall of Fame.
