Herbert F. Baker of Weadock, Cheboygan County, Mich. Born in Dover Township, Lenawee County, Mich., to John D & Lydia (Burcham) Baker. January 13, 1862. Farmer; member of Michigan state house of representatives from Cheboygan County, 1907-12; Speaker of the Michigan State House of Representatives, 1911-12; Progressive candidate for Michigan state auditor general, 1912; Progressive candidate for U.S. Representative from Michigan 11th District, 1914; member of Michigan state senate 29th District, 1919-22; candidate in Republican primary for U.S. Senator from Michigan, 1922; candidate in Republican primary for Governor of Michigan, 1924. Member, Elks; Grange; Woodmen. Interment at Munro Township Cemetery.

Baker funeral is held today
Republican leader laid to rest near his Cheboygan home.
Services are held at St. Paul's Methodist Church.
Business houses are closed.

(UP)- Business houses of this town closed this afternoon and public buildings
Were draped with black crepe, as residents paid final tribute to the memory of Herbert F. Baker, former speaker of the state legislature.
A proclamation issued by Mayor A. H. Weber called upon all business houses to close from 1:30 to 3 o'clock.
Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Methodist Church, and the body temporarily placed in the vault at the Pine Hill Cemetery.
The funeral attracted hundreds despite the inclement weather.
Fear of a possible blizzard that might block the Munro township road, leading to the cemetery, caused road equipment to be mustered along the route for emergency.
Governor Fred Green called the Baker family over long distance telephone and expressed regret he would be unable to attend today's service, because of a previous engagement.
