Lance Cpl. Alec R. Terwiske, 21, of Dubois, Ind., died Sept. 3 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. The Marine's parent command was Inspector/Instructor Staff, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve, Fort Knox, Ky. Alec was born July 6, 1991 in Jasper to Alan and Sandy (Eckert) Terwiske. He was a 2010 graduate of Northeast Dubois High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps that same year.
Surviving besides his parents are sisters of LaGrange, KY and Dubois, IN; a brother of Dubois, IN; grandmother of Jasper, IN; and two nieces.
Funeral services for will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday September 14, 2012 in St. Celestine Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Celestine Cemetery. Visitation for Alec Terwiske will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday (September 13, 2012) at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.
