Bill Dillard
(April 27, 1923 - September 3, 2012)

Bill Dillard passed away Monday morning, September 3, 2012 unexpectedly and peacefully at home with his wife by his side. He was born April 27, 1923 in Mart, TX. He is survived by his wife, LaRae, sons Dale and David Dillard, grandchildren Kara, Darren, and Deanna Dillard and great grandson Christian Souders. Bill came from a family of ten brothers and sisters all of whom have already passed away. He grew up on a farm in Texas and then moved to California at an early age. As a teenager Bill was a boxer who took on "all comers" for coins that were tossed into the ring to help support his family during the depression. Bill weighed about 135 and fought guys over 200 pounds. He joined the Navy and served our country in World War ll. He was right in the middle of all the action during the Normandy Invasion. He was part of the 'Murmansk Convoys" that escorted President Roosevelt across the Atlantic. He loved telling all of us his war stories. After the war he came home, joined Millwright Local Union 1607 and married the love of his life, LaRae. They married on February 15, 1948. Bill worked as a union millwright and later as a Business Agent for the Millwright/Carpenter union in Los Angeles, CA. As a union leader he rubbed shoulders with many politicians and celebrities including Governor Jerry Brown, Boxer Joe Louis, Mayor Joseph Alioto of San Francisco, Mayor Tom Bradley of Los Angeles, actor Henry Fonda and many more. Bill and LaRae raised their two sons in Inglewood, CA from 1948 until 1965. They moved to Torrance, CA in 1966. Bill retired in 1985 and moved to St. George, UT. Bill enjoyed attending activities with his sons and grandchildren. He seldom missed going to the kids swim meets, baseball games, dance activities, construction jobsites and going fishing on the boat at Quail Lake. He was very interested in politics and watched all the news shows. It is so ironic that he passed away on Labor Day, Bill being a "man of labor" his entire life. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

William Bill Dillard's parents were William Bill and Willie Pearl (Yarborough) Dillard.
