Alex F. Miller, 94, of Chicora, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.
He was born October 20, 1917 in Green Valley, Jefferson County, PA, the son of the late John S. Miller and Anna (Bodenhorn) Miller.
Alex retired in 1982 from the US Steel Cindering Plant in Saxonburg. He had also been a machinist at Wise Machine Shop and had worked for the B & LE Railroad.
Alex had served as a Trustee and council member at his church, St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran and was a member of his church's Friendly Bible Class. He also had served as a substitute Sunday school teacher. He had been an active member of Saxonburg Credit Union and active with 4-H groups. Alex liked bowling and hunting. His favorite hobby was woodworking. Alex loved to garden and take care of his berry bushes and fruit trees. He had been a very active participant in the Democratic party. At the age of 90, he joined the Butler Lions Club. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate fan.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. David (Janet) McClain of Clarks Summit, PA, Mrs. Donald (Nancy) Mackey of Butler and Mrs. David (Carol) Landis of Butler; 6 grandchildren, Alex Wm. Miller Neidich, Sharon Martin, Mark McClain, Lori George, Melissa Ola and Christopher Landis; 17 great grandchildren; and 1 brother, Harry David Miller of Baltimore, MD.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara B. Smith Miller whom he married February 26, 1938 and who died July 31, 2005, a son, Harry David Miller, a grandson, two sisters and five brothers.
Friends will be received at Young Funeral Home, Ltd., 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, on Wednesday, September 5th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Lions Club service at 6:45 p.m..
Services will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Towberman officiating.
Entombment in the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.
