James Franklin "Jimmy" Lail, 65, of the Bethlehem Community, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Catawba Valley Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

He was born on November 27, 1946, in Catawba County, a son of the late Gaither Lee and Etta Louise Harrison Lail.

Jimmy loved go-carting, slot cars and was called "Dr. Slotcar", coaching baseball, and helped as an
assistant coach at West Middle School and also enjoyed working on computers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William P. Lail, Ralph Eugene Lail Sr., and Donald Lee Lail; two sisters, Linda Kay Lail, and Shelia Darlene Lail.

He is survived by his wife of forty-one and a half years, Deborah Fowler Lail of the home; two sons, James Lail Jr. and wife, Amanda of Bethlehem, and Denny Lail and wife, Shannon of Hickory; two daughters, Dawn Fitzgerald and husband, Justin of Granite Falls, and Shellye Loggins and husband, Scott of Stony Point; seven grandchildren, Wesley and Shena Roop, Anthony, Dillon, Kayla, Brandon, and Daxton Lail; and one great-grandchild, Maddie Roop; four sisters, Dorothy Fox and husband, George of Claremont, Bessie Holland of Taylorsville, Doris Sebastian of Hildebran, and Cindy Kelsoe and husband, George of Taylorsville; three brothers, Gary Lail and wife, Brenda of Hickory, Larry Lail of Bethlehem, and Gwyn Lail and wife, Teresa of Missouri; a sister-in-law, Linda Lail of Hickory; brothers and sisters-in-law Wyatt Fowler and wife, Angie of Bethlehem, and Polly Dewitt and husband, Ralph of Lubbock, Texas; and an aunt, Maudie Meyers of Bethlehem.

Among his many nieces and nephews include Ralph Lail and wife, Cindy and daughters Amy Barnes and Leann Lail of Bethlehem; Scott Lail and wife, Tabitha and Cheyenne and Dakota Lail of Hickory, Wayne Holland and wife Gaye and children of Bethlehem; Peggy Ester and husband Vincent and children of Taylorsville, and Pam Rosenbalm and husband Kenny and children of Hickory, which are the closest and include many others.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2012 in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
