"The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 28, No 13, p 51, Mar. 21, 1872.

In Hope Valley, (Hopkinton,) March 7th, 1872, Deacon Nathan F, Chipman, aged 72 years. He was born in Stonington Borough in 1800. At the early age of fifteen, he became a Christian, and connected himself with the First-day Baptist Church in Groton, Ct. In 1824, he married Martha Burdick, daughter of Ichabod Burdick, deceased, of Hopkinton City. Some two years after his marriage, he commenced observing the Sabbath of the fourth commandment, and soon afterward became permanently located in Hope Valley, residing there till his death.

Connecting himself with the 2d Seventh-day Baptist Church in Hopkinton, he was called by the church to the office of deacon, which he filled with great credit to himself, and much profit to the church. Although living some five miles from the place of worship, he was a regular attendant.

Several years since he had a paralytic shock, by which one half of his body became nearly useless. During his long confinement, he endured Him who is invisible, dying at last in the triumph of his faith in his redeemer. A short time prior to his death, he sent for me and with great calmness suggested the arrangements for his funeral, requesting me to preach a sermon on the occasion, and also that his four sons should be his pall-bearers.
