Donald E. Phillips, 98, of Fort Dodge, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. A time of gathering for family and friends will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Full military honors will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #1856 and the Iowa Army National Guard at 11:10 AM Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services prior to a graveside service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh.

Donald Elmer Phillips, the son of Walter and Ellen (Knutson) Phillips was born September 14, 1917 in Clay Township, Webster County, Iowa. He went to rural schools until the 7th grade. He continued school in Callender where he graduated from Callender High School in 1936. Don farmed with his father until May of 1942 when he entered the United States Army and served as an Amphibian Engineer. He served in the Southwest Pacific making several landings in New Guinea and the Philippines. When the WW II ended, Don was stationed in Korea to help there. After his honorable discharge in November of 1945, he returned to farming with his father. In 1947, Don was united in marriage to Marjorie Phillips. To this union was born two sons, Roger and Sidney.

Don started working in private security in 1969 and retired from farming in 1971. In 1988, Don and Marjorie moved from the farm to Fort Dodge. He retired from his private security job in 1994. His wife passed away in 2002. Don was a member of Sacred Heart Church and a life member of the V.F.W.

Don is survived by his son, Sidney (Joyce) Phillips of Mountain Home, Arkansas; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Eugene Phillips of Fort Dodge.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Roger Phillips in 1998, and two sisters, Dorothy as an infant and Lennice Barnum.
