US Congressman. A member of the Democratic Party, he served North Carolina's 7th District in the United States House of Representatives from 1973 until 1997. The son of an attorney, he was born into a long line of public servants. Both his father and grandfather were former members of the state legislature. Rose attained his law degree from the University of North Carolina and was admitted to the bar in 1964. He joined his family's practice and in 1967, he was appointed and served as chief district court prosecutor with the 12th Judicial Court. During his tenure in Congress, Rose prioritized matters which dealt with the tobacco industry as well as other agriculture. In addition, he made an effort to update technology within Congress which included computers and a more efficient telephone communication system. After leaving office, he formed a consulting firm with his wife. He died of complications from Parkinson's disease.
