Indian Wars Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served during the Wars with the Plains Indians as a Corporal in Company E, 8th United States Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery in various actions in Arizona in 1868 and 1869. His citation reads simply "Bravery in scouts and actions against Indians". His Medal was awarded to him on September 6, 1869.
