The son of German/Swiss immigrants Johann Pieter and Katherine (Kramer) Bedinger, Frederick was born in Pennsylvania or Virginia (the state boundaries are unclear). He married Catherine Hoover in Berkeley, VA (later W VA) Oct. 6, 1795. A move to Fayette Co., PA occurred before 1820, and a later relocation to Butler Co., OH ensued shortly thereafter.

Frederick and his sons successfully farmed land in Morgan twp., Butler Co., OH on Paddy's Run near the present village of Okeana, for many years. Frederick and Catherine parented at least six sons and two daughters.
