It's unclear how long he was there and whether or not he returned to England before arriving in Wakefield, KS in 1870.
He married, raised 3 children, and went to Alberta, CAN in 1893 to claim a homestead, returned the following year with brother Charlie, son Alfred, friends William and George Wilkerson. They put up a large log house and spend the winter there while constructing needed houses and other buildings for the various families, who arrived in 1895.
In 1908, with their first grandchild arriving in Tacoma, and oldest son in medical school in Oregon, they visited Washington and Oregon, bought a home in Vaughn, WA and moved there. Daughter and younger son both moved with their families to Vaughn a few years later.
