Morey Forum Email 1592 03: In Lot 212, Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island, Mercer, IL, USA we have the first wife of Amos Franklin Morey; Lydia Herrick Wright born 11 Dec 1814 Lee, Oneida, NY, USA and who died in Preemption, Mercer, IL, USA. I wonder if these Moreys at Preemption were early enough to be squatting prior to the auction on US government land stolen from the Indians. Squatter's Rights, in American history, was a policy by which first settlers, on public lands could purchase the property they had improved to pre-empt the sale.

In Lot 212, Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island, Mercer, IL, USA we have the second wife of Amos Franklin Morey, Elizabeth Jane Hammond who he married 10 Apr 1867 Millersburg, Mercer, IL, USA. The dates are probably wrong again

In Lot 212, Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island, Mercer, IL, USA we have Amus Morey alias Amos Franklin Morey, born 16 Sep 1812 Deer Isle, Hancock, ME, USA; aged 80 years, died 14 Jan 1892 of lagripp, interred 19 Jan 1892.

Notebook 02 0249: Three other children of Amos and Lydia Morey buried in Marietta, Fulton Co. Cemetery. Same block as Zenas J. Morey were, Martha 1850, Andrew 1851, Francis 1851

Norm Prince suggests: The Illinois State Archives list the marriage of Amos and Elizabeth as follows:

Amos Morey and Mrs Elizabeth J Little, married 22 October 1867, book C, page 98, #5518
They are then found in the following:
1880 U S Census, Illinois, Fulton County, Avon

He would offer Amos second wife was Elizabeth Jane Shoemaker Little and he was her second husband.

She is buried with her first husband William Francis Little in Preemption Cemetery, Mercer Co, IL as #101525629
