Jeanette Thurston, daughter of Eli and Evelyn Kane, was born on June 2, 1915 in Englishtown. She graduated high school in Manalapan Township. Jeanette was joined in marriage to George C. Thurston on Aug. 28, 1943. To this union one son was born, Donald George Thurston. Jeanette was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church for 71 years. She served as Second Baptist Church secretary for 23 years. Jeanette relocated to Houston, Texas in September 1998. Her church membership was transferred to Westway Baptist Church. After 97 years, Jeanette departed this life on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eli and Evelyn Kane; her ex-husband, George C. Thurston; and her sister, Edverda Kane. She leaves to cherish her memory a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Diann Thurston; her first cousin, Pearl Bethea of Baltimore, Md., and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her.

Memorial services were held in Houston Texas. Her graveside service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, is in charge of arrangements.
