Private Carroll DePriest, who was a member of Company C-18th Inf. A.E.F., and who was wounded in battle on the battlefield in France on the 12th of June, 1918, and died from his wounds on the 14th day of June, 1918, arrived at Holland on Saturday, July 23, 1921, at 9:18 p.m. in charge of Private C. Bagsley of Camp Knox, Ky. Upon arrival at Holland, the remains were taken in charge by the members of Giles Dunn Post. 254 of the American Legion and taken to the M.E. Church where it was kept by them under guard until Sunday, July 24, at 10 o'clock a.m. when it was taken from Holland to the Coleman Cemetery and entered in honor of the American Legion, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. A.H. Insco, in the presence of a great throng of relatives and friends.
Private DePriest was born in Perry County, Tennessee September 3, 1878, where he was raised and remained there until about 1911, when he moved to Cottonwood Point Mo., where he resided with his family until his enlistment in the U.S. Army in the early part of the World War.
