Obituary gives birthplace as Rhode Island. Early census records give Massachusettes, which is more likely, as that is where Goodell's were located.

Son of Isaac and Cynthia (Shorey) Goodell.

Married Matilda Bennett in 1831. They were the parents of Lester, Cynthia, Elizabeth, William, John A, Charles, Mary Jane, George W, Isaac, Hiram (dy), and Rosanne.
