SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) -- Businessman Peter Griffith, father of actress Melanie Griffith, died Monday of complications from emphysema. He was 67.

Griffith was successful in advertising and real estate development and had been a child actor, his family said in a statement.

Griffith's actress-daughter Melanie, star of "Something Wild" and "Working Girl" was born in New York in 1957. Her mother is actress Tippi Hedren, star of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" and "Marnie."

Griffith also appeard as Morgan Strode in John Capenter's "Halloween" in 1978.
