He joined the US Air Force at the age of 17 and worked as an MP. He joined the Charlotte Police Department in 1964 and served until his retirement in 1989. After retirement he frequently lobbied in Raleigh for Police benefits. He joined the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Dept Auxiliary where he served as a deputy for many years before joining the Anson County Sheriff's Dept. He served as Auxiliary Commander until his illness. He was a longstanding member of the Fraternal Order of Police, founding President of the North Carolina PBA, and member of the Phalanx Lodge #31.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Roscoe Correll and Mildred Morton Correll and brother Dennis Correll. He leaves behind six siblings: Billy, Kathy, Bobby, Larry, Carol, and Connie; four children: Stacey Goggio, Jackie DiCarlo, Clark Correll and his wife Denisha, and Brian Correll, all of Denver, NC. He has seven grandchildren: Alex and Leah Correll, Ryan and Taylor Goggio, Laura DiCarlo, BJ and Carly Correll and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the people who were life-long friends and a special thanks to Agnes Shankle for taking great care of him over the past many years. Our deepest gratitude is given to the hospice nurses and other staff members who helped him live out his last days with dignity and respect.
