Suggested edit: Frank & Mary (Novotny) Tuhy
Frank W. Tuhy and Mary L. Novotny were married at St. Wenceslaus Church in Dickinson, ND on January 10, 1921. They lived on a farm southwest of New Hradec, ND, and were also parishioners of Sts. Peter & Paul of New Hradec until 1945, when they moved into Dickinson.
Mary was born in Crimea, Russia, in 1899. She came to America with her parents, Antone and Mary (Chalupnik) Novotny in 1911. So, she remembered the trip quite well.
Frank was born north of South Heart, ND in 1900, to Francis and Anna (Fisher) Tuhy. They farmed north of South Heart. After moving to Dickinson, he worked for Walton Davis and Heaton Lumber as a carpenter for many years. Although he only had a sixth-grade education, his math was outstanding. Fractions were no problem. Mary was fond of flowers and gardening, receiving many ribbons at fairs. She cooked many wedding dinners and bazaar meals.
When the children were younger, she sewed almost everything they wore. Times were hard, but three was always food on the table, even though they had to do without the fancy foods.
They had five children, but little Charlie was called to join the angels at the age of 14 months. Today there are Amelia Molly (Albert) Kubas, widowed in 1990; Laudie married Cecilia Steffan; Hattie married Mans Steffan. They all reside in Dickinson. Vince married Dorothy Haller, and they live north of South Heart.
Frank died in 1984. Mary died in 1988. May they rest in peace.
