Obituary
Hilton Funeral Home - September 2, 2012
Roger L. Anderson, 83, of Gaithersburg, MD, died on Thursday August 30, 2012, after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Mary Lou Anderson, his beloved wife of almost 50 years who passed away in March 2000. Roger was also preceded in death by one son, Skip Anderson, in December 1981.
Roger served his country in the United States Navy in the early 1950's and was the City of Gaithersburg's Director of Finance for 25 years, retiring in 1996. He was a great influence in the City whose impact is still felt today.
A lifelong avid fisherman, Roger spent many summer weeks at his favorite fishing spots in Canada and around the local area with friends and family. He took pride in his annual crop of prize-winning tomatoes, and enjoyed playing host to numerous family holiday gatherings, pool parties and crab feasts. He was always up for a rousing game of Hearts, embraced the challenges of multiple crossword puzzles each day, and faithfully followed the ups and downs of the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Redskins.
Surviving are his children: Suzanne Gonzalez (Xavier) of Homosassa, FL; Betsy Boddicker (Ed) of Frederick, MD; Bill Anderson of Poolesville, MD; Bob Anderson of Gaithersburg, MD; 8 grandchildren: Kristin Tayman (Gary); Brittany and Matthew Graham; Amanda, Andrew and Patrick Boddicker; Kelci and Lauren Anderson; and three great grandchildren: Jesse and Miranda Tayman and Kayla Anderson.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, September 4 from 5-8 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD (hiltonfh.com), where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 5 at 11 am. Interment will follow in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville, MD.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your local food bank. Roger was a very giving person who always looked out for those less fortunate.
