"Mae Marie 'Mamer' Doner, 85, of KeKalb, Ill. passed away Saturday, 08 March 2008 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in Dekalb.

Born 20 June 1922 in DeKalb, she was the daugther of Clarence and Hazel (Hjerstedt) Swanson, she lived her entire life in DeKalb. She married Lloyd W. Doner May 31, 1943 and they experienced 51 beautiful years together before he passed away in 1994. Their lives centered around their children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Although she was considered by her children to be the consummate mother, in today's world she would have been considered a career woman as well. She worked for Nehring Electrical Works for 34 years before her retirement in 1987. She began her employment with Nehring's as personal secretary to Paul Nehring Sr. and worked her way up to the position of assistant sales manager. She was a lifelong member of Hillcrest Covenant Church and at the time of her passing was the oldest member As she often said, she lived a long happy and healthy life. Her illness was sudden, unexpected and short. She will be remembered as loving and caring with a quick wit and mind, and as a second mother and grandmother to many of her children's and grandchildren's friends.

She is survived by two children, Diane Watson and Jim Doner, two grandchildren, Keri Reed and Johnny Watson; a sister, Joyce (Charles) Chamberlain; a brother-in-law, Jerry Hamilton; two sisters-in-law, Karen Kline and Joni Doner; a sister/cousin, Maxine Haney; two nieces, Marcia (Richard) Born and Patricia (Pat) Anderson; six nephews, Charles (Kathy) Chamberlain, Richard (Linda) Chamberlain; Mike (Mary) Haney; Steve Kline, John Kline and Kurt Kline; six great-nieces and -nephews.
