Gertrude Henrietta Freyman (1901-1994). Freyman lived most of her life in the Kansas City area. Freyman was a graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute. She won the Tiffany Foundation scholarship in 1930 and Macy's Living with Art Competition in 1960.

During the 1930s Freyman taught at the Kansas City Art Institute. She did illustrations for the Kansas City Star and engaged in interior design until she retired in the 1970s. Freyman painted murals at the Trail House Restaurant, Putsch's 210, Italian Gardens, as well as hospitals and other buildings in the Kansas City area. Freyman exhibited her art at the Plaza and Westport Art Fairs in Kansas City, MO.

Freyman's palette of color was consistent -- muted earth tones. She always made her own frames in the same muted earth tones. Her philosophy was that the frame should not constrain a picture, rather a frame should be an extension of the picture.

Freyman died in 1994 at the age of 93.
