JOHN C. (J.C.) ROBERTS
Services for John C. (J.C.) Roberts Sr, 76, of Louisiana, were held at 2 p.m., August 1, at the First Baptist Church in Louisiana with the Rev. Earl Wood officiating. Burial was in Bethany Cemetery.
Mr. Roberts died at 5:25 p.m., July 29, 1988, in Pike County Memorial Hospital. He was born November 7, 1911, to William Ernest and Cora Ann (Markham) Roberts in Louisiana.
He was married to Gladys Fern Thorpe April 16, 1938, in Louisiana and she survives.
Other Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Wayne R. (Ferne) Richardson of Blue Springs, Mo; two sons, John C. Roberts Jr, of Wichita, Kansas and Gary S. Roberts of Burlington, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Charles (Mary Louise) Stewart; a step mother, Clemmie Roberts of Lansing, Kansas; one Foster Brother, Myron L. Roberts of Olimito, Texas; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his parents: two sisters, Mildred Patrick and Faith Ann Hall; one brother, Leon R. McKenzie; and a step father, Roland McKenzie.
Mr. Roberts retired from Hercules December 1, 1976. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisiana where he had been a Deacon since 1944, a Sunday School Teacher and served on many Church Committees.
He was also a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Wilmer Reed sang,"Ivory Palaces" at the Funeral service. Dorothy Wickell, Glorietta King, Raymond Trost and Wilmer Reid sang "Where We'll Never Grow Old" and the congregation sang "On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand," Ruth Wood was the organist and Janice Griffith was the Pianist.
Honorary Pallbearers were the Deacons of First Baptist Church. Active Pallbearers were: James Spencer, William LaRue, Harold Eastman, Roy Price, Miller Waugh and Carl Littrell.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Louisiana, Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association in Columbia or the American Cancer Society.
