Funeral of August Anderson
The funeral of August Anderson, 43 years old, of San Diego, California, who died Monday afternoon at Bethany Hospital, in Kansas City, Kansas, will be Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of John Schone, 959 Ohio Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

August was born at Motola, Sweden. Siblings were John and Hannah (who came to America), Roy, Carl, Louise, Mary & Matilda (unknown). Parents names not known.

August met Hannah Schone in Kansas City, Kansas and they were married on November 24, 1892. Together they had three children, Alice Marie (b. 1893), Howard Gustavus (b. 1895) and Carl Robert (b. 1898). The family lived in Kansas City, Wyandotte, Kansas where August primarily worked as the Deputy County Clerk of the Court in Kansas City, Kansas/Missouri.

The family moved to San Diego, California in October 1906. At some point August became ill with stomach problems. He left the family and traveled to Warner Hot Springs in the mountains of San Diego County where he hoped to be cured from the hot springs. There was a complete town/encampment there where people would come to use the hot springs for healing. It is not know how long he was stayed there. Our family has letters from August to his family dated July and August, 1910 that he wrote while at Warner Springs. August even drew a map of the entire facility for his little daughter Edith Anderson who was 7 years old at the time.

A copy of the map was given to Warner Springs Ranch. In a "thank you" letter from the chairman of the Warner Springs Ranch, it was stated that "The map was very helpful, as we haven't had a map from the 1901 era, and before the dining room and kitchen were build in the main lodge...... In fact this will be one of the oldest letters we have."

When August got to the point that he knew he was not going to live he went back to Kansas City, Kansas. He wished to die and be buried in Kansas City, Kansas which he considered home. August passed away at Bethany Hospital on January 2, 1911 and was buried on January 8, 1911 at Mount Hope Cemetery.
God rest your soul beloved great grandfather.
