He was born on Saturday, May 9, 1914, in Bridgewater, and was a son of the late Minor W. Miller Sr. and Nellie (Bowman) Miller.
He was a graduate of Bridgewater High School, class of 1932, attended Bridgewater College for one year, and received a B.S. degree from Virginia Tech in 1940.
He worked for Virginia Agriculture Extension Service, working in several counties as county agent. In 1948, he started dairy farming in Spotsylvania County, where his son is operating the farm now.
He was a member of the Ruritan Club for over 44 years, served on Spotsylvania School board for a number of years, as well as other county activities. He served on the Virginia Farm Bureau, Virginia State Dairymen's Association, Warrenton Farm Credit Board, Southern States Regional Board of Directors for 21 years, vice chairman three years and chairman three years. He was active in Zoan Baptist Church and was a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Superintendent of Sunday school and was involved in other church activities. In 1994, he moved from Spotsylvania County to Bridgewater Retirement Community, taking part in many activities and serving as association president for two years. After moving to Bridgewater, he became a member of the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren.
On June 1, 1944, he was united in marriage to Josephine Miller, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four children and their spouses, Carolyn M. and Thomas Chewning of Locust Grove, Wayne W. and Jo Ann Miller of Locust Grove, Sharyn M. and Bob Halpin of King George, Jere and Dawn Miller of Spotsylvania; two brothers, Horace Miller of Charlottesville, Ray Miller of Ashland; and one sister, Arlene Miller Brown of Bridgewater. Ten grandchildren and their spouses, Dwayne and Tina Chewning of Spotsylvania, Ben and Kristine Miller of Locust Grove, Christopher and Stacy M. Myers of Boones Mill, Katie Miller of Shenandoah University, Kimberly B. and Calvin Lee Madison of Colonial Beach, Rebecca Sue Miller of Locust Grove, William H. Blakley II "Chip" of King George, Elysa T. Miller, Jordan Miller, and Alexander Miller, all of Spotsylvania and five great-grandsons also survive.
A memorial service will be conducted in the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren on Sunday, April 13, 2003, at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Robert E. Alley and Wendell Eller officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends following the service.
