Mary (MOM) was born in Kansas City on a nice fall day in November,1931 in east Kansas City off what is now e.23rd st. & where I-70 intersects. She was the daughter of Mary Theresa Aspinwall and the father was listed as unknown on birth documentation.
Mary Elizabeth grew up a ward of the Catholic church in St. Vincent's Infants home which is no longer standing. The actual building the pregnant mothers stayed in during the final term of their pregnancy and right before birth is still there and a picture is listed.
Mary eventually was transferred to St. Josephs Orphan Girls home which was located at 31st & Karnes Blvd. in Kansas City at what is now the site of the BMA building. Finally she ended up in care of the State of Missouri at the Marshall State School in Marshall, Missouri.
Even though she was institutionalized from birth to just before marriage she made us as kids feel like we had the best Mom in the whole world as there was nothing she wouldn't do for us,showed us undying love, spent all of her time with us and pretty much put us first and foremost above all else in her daily tasks. She was an awesome MOM.
Sadly at the middle of her life Mary developed cardiac health deterioration and at 50 years of age she passed away from cardio myopathy.Although it was a crushing blow to all of her chldren I believe we all eventually accepted it was "God's Decision" to call her home where she would be at eternal peace and no longer would suffer.I am at peace with that.
I wanted to somehow immortalize her memory and this is a perfect way to do it. Mom....I just wanted to let you know we remember and miss you dearly. See you soon in heaven...Your Son Ryland
