Carroll David Derrow Sr., 78, of Harrisonburg, departed this life on Sunday, May 13, 2007, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Mr. Derrow was born May 14, 1928, in Rockingham County to the late Elmer and Vera Derrow .

Mr. Derrow served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1947. Mr. Derrow was a self-employed painter for the duration of his lifetime.

Mr. Derrow is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy J. Derrow .

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Roger Leake and wife, Karen, of Radcliff, Ky., Sharon Caracofe and husband, Doug, of McGaheysville, Evelyn Waybright and husband, Tommy, of Harrisonburg, and David Derrow and wife, Kate, of Bridgewater. He is also survived by three children from a previous marriage; eight grandchildren, Melody Miller and husband, Travis, Mandy Caracofe, Travis Roadcap, Jessie and Hanna Derrow , Brian, Matthew and Allison Leake; four great-grandchildren, Kellie Caracofe and Jacob Carson of McGaheysville, and Logan and Kyle Leake of Germany and Grand Dog Rusty.

Also surviving are two brothers, Lawrence Derrow and wife, Rachel, of New Market and Warren Derrow and wife, Frances, of Keezletown; two sisters, Lorraine Gooden of Elkton and Evelyn Meyer of Louisville, Ky.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Leake, and an infant son.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Pastor Russell Heinrich officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at the funeral home this evening from 7-9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30329.

Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg is handling arrangements.
