Volney E. Perkins was born at Bridgewater, Vt. He moved to Illinois in 1848 and was one of the pioneer teachers of that state. He became a Christian in early life, uniting with the Methodist church, being a class leader for several years.
In 1849 he was united in marriage to Ellen M. Dunham of Woodstock, Vt. To this union were born eight children; five of whom reached maturity.
The deceased is survived by his aged wife, four daughters, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral took place from the residence of Dr. and Mrs. F. A. Bates at 9 a. m. Monday and was conducted by Rev. Dr. Shepherd of the Methodist church. The interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
