LAUREL — Emma Jean Logan, 87, better known as "Jean," passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.
Born Aug. 13, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Landreth C. Adams Sr. and Bertha Mae James.
Born in Sycamore on the James Homeplace Farm, Jean was a 1943 graduate of Upper Moreland High School in Willow Grove, Pa.
She married George T. Logan in 1943 and worked at Penn Mutual Insurance Co. in Philadelphia until George returned from serving with the U.S. Navy during World War II. They then moved to the Asbury Church/Hardscrabble area of Sussex County.
After George's death in 1976, she missed the daily interaction with others and went to work for the F.W. Woolworth Co. in Seaford in retail sales. Emma was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Laurel and also received great enjoyment from her beautiful needlework and reading. Jean was blessed with a quick wit, inquiring mind, delightful sense of humor and a quick smile.
Jean was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and is survived by her three sons, George T. Logan Jr. and his wife, Sarah, James E. Logan and his wife. Barbara, and Gordon K. Logan, all of Seaford; and by her brother, Landreth C. Adams Jr. of Georgetown. Her grandchildren include George Logan III, Geoffrey Logan, James Logan, Thomas Logan, Gregory Logan and Carol Ann Logan. Her stepgrandchildren are Kimberly Conlin, Karen Messick, Christopher Baltz, Kate Libbey, Cha Wamsley and Khansa Wamsley. Great-grandchildren are Aleigh Custer, Kaitlyn Johnson, Sophia Logan, Emery Messick, Madelyn Baltz, Logan Faircloth, Alibia Faircloth and Malenta Mitchnard.
In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her husband, George T. Logan Sr.; and her sister, Helen Adams Rust.
A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home at 700 West St. in Laurel. An 11 a.m. graveside service will be held Saturday in Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Road, Roslyn, Pa.
In Jean's honor, contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Del. 19963; or Nanticoke Health Services Foundation, 801 Middleford Road, Seaford, Del. 19973.
