Karen M. (Selfors) Pickett died peacefully on August 24, 2012 in Canyonville, Oregon after an extended illness.

Karen was born in Bend, Oregon on February 13, 1945 and attended Bend schools through her graduation from Bend High School in 1963. She attended Southern Oregon College and graduated with her teaching degree in 1967. She then went on to also get her master's degree in teaching.

Her first teaching job was in Oakland, Oregon and then Sutherlin, Oregon. Her final and most favorite days as a teacher were at Days Creek Elementary School in Days Creek, Oregon. She started there in 1978 and remained until her retirement in 1999. Even after retirement she was still actively involved in the Days Creek school community. Karen enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and playing cards and seeing her "kids" after they had left Days Creek.

In June 1977 Karen married Ed Pickett in Reno, Nevada. They remained married until his sudden death in November of 2003.

Karen is survived by her daughter Tina Folkerts, Portland, OR; grandchildren: Meagan Huggins and Matt Yarbrough of Canyonville, OR, Cody Carton of Riddle, OR and his daughter Corissa, and a sister, Judi Price and a nephew, Eric Price of Crooked River Ranch, OR. Special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Delores Pickett of Medford, OR. Karen had two very close and dear friends, Sherry Walker of Days Creek, OR and Sue Swenson of Oakridge, OR who also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Her friends and family want to thank the staff of Mercy Hospital for their support, compassion, and concern, especially to her nurse Deb. She was Karen's angel.
