Mr. Basham was a licensed minister and from 1938 to 1943 he pastored Nazarene churches in Atwood, IL, and Effingham, IL. He was last employed as an electrician at Lafayette Home Hospital and before that he worked for Thise Builders and Payne Construction Co., both in Lafayette. An Army veteran of World War II he served in the Rhineland and the Central European Theater. He was with General Patton's 3rd Armored Division during the Battle of the Bulge.
He was married in Lafayette in 1943 to Marilyn M. Knowles, and she survives with two sons, John R. Basham II of Lafayette and Frederick C. Basham of Remington; a daughter, Constance (Mrs. Ed) Hannah of Crawfordsville; and a sister, Maxine (Mrs. Tharen) Evans of Crawfordsville. Service Dec. 22 in First Church of the Nazarene, Revs. William Scott and Dan Lima officiating. Internment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens; Hippensteel funeral directors in charge of arrangements.
