Residents of Brentwood and Downey, CA
Dad went to heaven to be with mom on April 17. Buster and Bette are again reunited there after more than 63 years of marriage and they are missed every day. Dad was born in Thornton, AR. and grew up in Memphis, TN. graduating from Memphis Tech High School. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 and spent more than five years proudly serving our country in the China-Burma-India (CBI) theatre of operations with the 7th Bombardment Group in India as a ground crewman for a B-24 Liberator squadron.
Mom was born in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from Perry High School. She and her family moved to Southern California during the latter stages of World War II. Mom supported the war effort by working long hours in the aviation industry. Mom and dad met through mutual friends and were married in Los Angeles in June 1945 and lived in Memphis for six years before returning to the LA area.
They resided in Downey for over fifty years before moving to Brentwood in 2004. Dad was an inspector for the LA Unified School District over seeing new and remodels of school construction for all aspects of safety and quality control before retiring in 1983. Mom worked in various administrative positions and was happiest serving with the Downey Police Department for many years prior to leaving to take care of her ailing mother (my grandmother).
Their only son Martin and daughter-in-law Marilyn of San Ramon survive them. They lovingly 'inherited' grandchildren Rob and Shannon Maser (and great-grandchildren Lauren and Michael) of San Ramon, and Kathy and Bob Perry (and great-grandchildren Kimberly and Bradley) of El Dorado.
