She was born March 22, 1926, in Versailles, IL, the daughter of Manley and Ethel M. Green VanHyning.
She married Dudley D. Harvell on October 25, 1941, in Palmyra, IL and divorced on December 29, 1969. She later married Donald G. Smith on June 29, 1976, in Las Vegas, NV. Betty was a housewife.
Surviving are her husband, Donald "Gib" Smith; sons, Tom (Karen) Harvell and Steven "Zeke" Harvell; daughters, Cherilyn (Dave) Mundhenke, Christine Manzi Painter, Kathleen (Michael) Hemmer and Melissa (Mark) Randolph; grandchildren, Jerry (Kristy) Harvell, Shawn Harris, Lori Herman, Shelly Manzi, Emily Painter, Jamie Painter and companion, Elvis Witt, Kyla Painter; Alan Randolph and Matt Randolph; six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded by her parents; seven brothers and sisters; daughter, Pamela VanHyning and great-grandson, Ethan Tyler Witt.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, rural Taylorville. Rev. Larry Best will officiate the service. Arrangements are being handled by Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville.
Funeral services for Betty Smith, 86, of Taylorville, were held Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, with burial at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, in rural Taylorville. Rev. Larry Best officiated the service.
