Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a drummer boy in Company G, First Kentucky Infantry. On May 21, 1862, during the Siege of Corinth, Mississippi, he saved the life of a wounded Union officer lying between the lines. For courage in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor in August 1895. At age 15, he was one of the youngest to receive the Medal of Honor for service during the Civil War.
