Family records and US naturalization show birth year of 1873.
Born in Madgalena, Sonora, Mexico. The son of Angel Delgado and Luisa Ballesteros, Angel Delgado became a member of the Phoenix Fire Department's Yucatec Hose Company 2 in about 1893 as a volunteer, continued on when the department became paid and then full time, and rose to the level of Assistant Fire Chief.

In August 1911, Angel was the only other fireman on duty at old Central Station when a disturbed gunman shot fireman Guy Kilgore, and Angel ran in and disarmed the gunman, walking him to the jail a block away, while guy was taken to Sisters of Mercy Hospital, where Guy died. Guy is buried several feet away from "A.B."
