Richard H Adolfi

Richard H. Adolfi, 78, of Naples, FL, and formerly of Rome, NY, passed away peacefully at his home in Naples on August 25, 2012.

He was born July 19, 1934, in Rome, the son of Adolfo and Maria Lamandia Adolfi. On November 24, 1956 he married Louise Giarrusso in St. John's Church.

Richard retired from the Rome Fire Department after 21 years. He then founded Upstate Dental, now known as Aspen Dental, and sold the company in 1997.

Mr. Adolfi was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having proudly served his country from 1951 to 1955.

He was a member of St. Peter's Church, Rome, NY and New Hope Ministries Naples, FL, the Toccolana Club, Knights of Columbus, Teugega Country Club, was on the Ski Patrol at Woods Valley for 13 years and was an EMT while in Rome. While in Naples, he was a member of Quail Run Country Club.

Richard loved his family and cherished spending time with them. His strong Italian roots were a source of pride. He was an avid golfer and shared many great memories with countless golfing buddies. He dedicated his life selflessly to providing his family with all of the opportunities and means possible to achieve success. Everyone who came into contact with him will truly miss his joyful presence and warm heart. He was a great example of the American Dream and what is possible if you put your trust in God and love your family above all.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Louise; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Deborah and Timothy Twomey of Rome, Shelley and Warren Braman of Rome, Catherine and Stephen Olney of Rome, and Cynthia Caruso, of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard J. and Elaina Adolfi of Mt. Pleasant, SC; 16 grandchildren, Timothy J. (Angela) Twomey, Ashley (Chase) Andrews, Emily (Joseph) Wilkinsky, Nicholas (fiancé, Marta Formagnana) Twomey, McKenzie (Brandon) Harosia, Morgan Froelich, Zachary (Mallory) Froelich, Ethan Froelich, Oliver Froelich, Natasha (Jason) Derby, Stefan Matwijec, Sonny Caruso, Giovanni Caruso, Sophia Caruso, Wyatt Adolfi, and Spencer Adolfi; six great-grandchildren, Sage, Mac, and Trace Andrews, Mason Wilkinsky, Kazimir Derby, and Xavier Twomey; three sisters, Jaconda Coluccio of Boston, Katherine Retrosi of Rome, and Marie "Babe" Perry of Rome; a brother, Anthony Adolfi of Scottsdale, AZ; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a sister, Andrea Adolfi; and six brothers, Nazie, Frank, Joseph, Henry, Albert, and Adolph Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 North George Street, Rome, NY at 9:45 a.m. and St. Peter's Church at 10:30 a.m. where Fr. Philip Hearn will officiate. Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
