WASHINGTON - Don L. Fisher, 84, of Washington died at 7:05 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

He was born to Lorenz Adolf and Helen Lucille Horsfield Fisher on Aug. 14, 1928, in Belleville, Ill. On Nov. 3, 1957, he married Bettejo Cunningham at the First United Methodist Church in Springfield, Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are Don's two children, David (Maria) Fisher of Auburn, Wash., and Jennifer Fisher (Tom Poklen) of Roselle, Ill. Three grandsons also survive, Damien, Seth and Kolbe Fisher.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Judy.

Don was a 1946 graduate of Belleville Township High School. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1952 from University of Missouri. He later attended University of Oslo in Norway in 1955, and was a 1971 graduate of University of Illinois with a degree in economics geography.

After high school, during the years from 1946 to 1948, Don served his country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Japan. From 1952 to 1955, he worked for Westinghouse Electric as a market researcher. From 1955 to 1966, he worked in Springfield for Sangamon Electric as an analyst. After his time there he began work for Caterpillar Inc., where he worked until his retirement in 1992. He worked in marketing management.

He was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church, where he was active in the Stephen Ministry and the youth group. He was a volunteer at the Apostolic Christian Home in Morton, Meals on Wheels and taught Rules of the Road to senior citizens for the state of Illinois.

Don loved music and sang in his church choir, as well as many active years at Morton Civic Choir, Cat Chorus, Peoria Players and Corn Stock Theatre. He also loved woodworking and loved to make his family furniture.

There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington. Pastor Tom Goodell will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Cremation has been accorded and private burial of cremains will be at the church Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to his church or to The Baby Fold in Bloomington.
