Lavern R. "Porky" Schwake, 67, of 560 Archer St., died Thursday, Jan. 18, in McAllen, Texas, of a heart attack.

He was born Nov. 3, 1922, in Waterloo, the son of Herman and Anna Brandenburg Schwake. He married Elsie Holmes Greenwood Aug. 31, 1966, in Waterloo. She died April 30, 1989. He married Lois Kirk Dec. 23, 1989, in Waterloo.

He was a fireman until his retirement in 1977. He also owned and operated Schwake & Sons Well milling Co. He served in the Navy during World War ll.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Roger of Evansdale, and Robert of Cedar Falls; two stepdaughters, Caroline K. Miller of Chandler, Ariz., and Diana J. Smith of Orr, Minn.; three stepsons, Douglas J. Greenwood of St. Charles, Mo., Dennis K. Greenwood of Waite Park, Minn., and Floyd Kirk of Waterloo; a brother, Herbert J. of Waterloo; and two granddaughters, 12 step grandchildren and a step great-granddaughter.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Waterloo Church of Christ, with burial to Fairview Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 tonight at Locke Funeral Home and for an hour before services at the church. The Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie 4074 of Cedar Falls will conduct a public memorial service at Locke Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. today. Graveside military rites will be conducted by AMVET Posts 19 and 31.

Memorials may be made to the Waterloo Church of Christ.
