Funeral services will be 4pm Wed August 29 in Wood Funeral l Home Chapel in Deport with Pastor John Kelley and Rev Fred Fangio officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under direction of Wood Funeral Home
The family will receive friends 3-4 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born in Clardy Texas, Lamar County Sept 14, 1937 the daughter of George and Hazel Pearson Cheatham. She was a graduate of Deport High School in 1956 and a graduate of Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1959
She married Gordon VanDeaver Sept 26, 1959 in Deport building 52 years and 11 months of marital bliss. She was a longtime member of Deport First Presbyterian Church and a charter member of 50 years of Deport Order of Eastern Star
Helen was preceded in death by her parents George and Hazel Cheatham.
Surviving are her husband Gordon VanDeaver of Pattonville, a daughter Charlotte Fay Velasco and husband Tony of Austin, a son James VanDeaver and wife ViVi of Paris, granddaughter Alita Meryl Velasco of Austin and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and will be greatly missed by many friends
Active pallbearers will be James Cheatham, Wayne Fisher, David Cheatham, BillyPearson, John Denison and Gary Pirtle
