Louis W. Glatthorn was born in Tamaqua, Pa in 1870. His family moved around within the area until 1880. At that time, their parents John, Paulina and their younger children including Louis moved to Galloway Township, NJ via the new Atlantic City Rail Road Line which ran, from end to end, Catasauqua Pa to Atlantic City, NJ and all points in between, including Philadelphia.
Approximately 1890 Louis found permanent employment at the Lester Piano Works in Lester, Pa. While there he met his future wife, Lillian M Horne. The Horne family were large in number and recently wealthy, by most standards, their Patriarch Charles Horne Sr. having sold his farm to the Darby Improvement Railroad for $ 28,000 in 1875.
Louis & Lillian Horne Glatthorn were married at the Prospect Hill Baptist Church on August 5th, 1896. (see photograph). The couple moved into their new home on Horne Row, as it was called in Tinicum Township, Pa. All the homes being owned by a family member at that time. They began a family immediately with children: Harold, Elizabeth, Pauline and John Louis being born in rapid succession. Louis W Glatthorn died unexpectedly on May 14th, 1903 of Typhoid Fever. He was just 33. The Widow Lillian never remarried. Lillian M Horne Glatthorn died on July 28th, 1928. She is buried alongside her husband.
