Mabel Irene Warta, 104, of Valley Falls, formerly of Oskaloosa, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 at the Midland Care Connection/Linnwood Place in Valley Falls. She was born November 10, 1909 in rural Salina, KS, the daughter of Jacob and Anna Bradford Diehl. She attended schools in Brookville, KS. Mabel was a homemaker and co-owned and operated a dairy farm with her husband in rural Valley Falls. She had lived in Oskaloosa since 1960, moving from rural Valley Falls. As her health declined, she moved to Linnwood Assisted Living in Valley Falls. She was a member of the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. She was an Artist and enjoyed doing still life art work. She also enjoyed gardening and volunteering her time. She married Carl Albert Warta on April 3, 1931 at Salina, they were married nearly 72 years as Carl preceded her in death on February 20, 2003. She is survived by one son, Byron Jay (Marjorie) Warta, Newton, KS, two grandsons, Steven (Cindy) Warta, Overland Park, KS and Keith (Diana) Warta, Topeka, KS, four great-grandchildren, Cari (Derek) Brown, Olathe, KS, Kyle (Ashley) Warta, Prairie Village, KS., Shannon Warta, Topeka, KS, Shane, (Becca) Warta, Wilmore, KY, three great-great-grandchildren, Kai, Grayson, and Leela Brown, all of Olathe, KS., Mabel was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Diehl and three sisters, Eva Wheaton, Velma Smith, and Ruth Rulau. Funeral Services will be at 2:30 PM, Friday at the Oskaloosa United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 PM, prior to Services. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa.
