There will be no services for Chester Dalphus Collinsworth per his request.
He died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2010 at The Convalarium of Dublin.
He was born March 1, 1916 in Salyersville, Ky., to the late Walter and Myrtle Collinsworth.
Surviving are three daughters, Susan Garner of California, Sharon Mankey of Kenton and Valerie Collinsworth of Richwood; a son, Adam (Lisa) Collinsworth of Richwood; a step-daughter, Julie Stevens-Converse of Columbus; his former wife and companion of 44 years, Patricia Sheets of Richwood; a sister, Genevia of Kenton; three grandsons, Joshua, Jeff,and Jason and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Luanna; a brother, Lacy, who was killed in active duty in World War II and several other brothers and sisters.
He was a farmer and also a realtor in Kenton for a number of years with Collinsworth Realty.
He was a member of the Ohio Hand Corn Huskers Association and will be remembered as a top-notch competitor in the state and national competitions, often practicing for months at a time in preparation. He began competing in 1940 and 1941, taking top honors in the state.
His family always attended and his son, Adam, competed several years with his father. He continued with a total of 19 Ohio first place state trophies, with his final first place awarded at the age of 82. He received three National Hand Corn Husking Championships in 1985, 1993 and 1994 with his family also attending.
