John Joseph Gant passed away Wednesday August 22 at Select Specialty Hospital in Pensacola. The son of the late Austin, Sr., and Beatrice Bryant Gant, Mr. Gant was born in Pensacola. He was retired from the Escambia County School Board after 20 years of service, and the U.S. Army after 25 years. Preceding him in death was a brother, Austin Gant, Jr.; sister, Diane Gant; mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Galloway; and a special niece, Wanda Elaine Robinson.
Surviving his departure with cherished memories are his wife of 20 years, Mrs. Jeanette-Galloway Gant; his daughter, Kavonda Williams; two devoted sons, Jimmy (Chitema) Wilson and Luthieran (Deborah) Brown; a devoted sister and brother-in-law, Josephine (Horace) Hill; three devoted brothers, Anthony (Carolyn) Gant, Eli (Juanita) Gant, all of Pensacola and David (Marilyn) Gant of Jacksonville, FL; and a sister-in-law, Quentelia Gant of Columbus, GA; 21 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; his aunt, Mrs. Ophelia King of Detroit, MI; a devoted cousin, Mrs. Pearline McClendon of Pensacola; and a whole host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and 12 brothers and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 29, 2012 from 6 until 8 pm at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, Cantonment. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Faith Chapel North with Rev. Otha Leverette, III officiating. Interment will follow at a later date due to inclement weather at Barrancas National Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded.
