PROMINENT LAWYER DIES SUDDENLY
Jesse D. Pope, 71, a lifelong resident of Fort Payne, passed away suddenly at his office Friday about noon. Mr. Pope was a graduate of Alabama Law School and held a B.A., M.A. and L.L.D. Degree. He had practiced law in Fort Payne many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, DeKalb Bar Association, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Social Fraternity, and a member of the "A" Club.

Mr. Pope was widely known in this section and his many friends over the County were shocked to learn of his sudden death.

Mr. Pope was one of Fort Payne's most prominent attorneys, being well versed in law having practiced his profession for a long number of years in North Alabama.

He is survived by two sons, William S. and Ocsar Pope of New York.

Funeral services were held at the Wilson Funeral Chapel Saturday at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Clifton Malone officiating.

Pallbearers were Joe Kellett, Max Howard, Jay Black, John Wear, Winford Watson, C.M.T. Sawyer, II. Honorary pallbearers I.M. Presley, John B. Isbell, Sr., C.J. Scott, L.L. Crawford, C.A. Wolfes, W.M. Beck, W.J. Tindale, James J. Scott, W.J. Haralson,J.A. Johnson, W.G. Hawkins, Loma Beaty, E.O. Meadows.

Burial was in the Glenwood cemetery with Wilson Funeral Home in charge.
