Leonard Nims was born to Ariel and Anna (Brewer)Nims July 5, 1795 in Deerfield, MA. He left Deerfield for Manlius NY and joined brother Asa. He married Electa McKee and they had a son, Eli Bronson Nims in Watertown in Jefferson Co NY.

Leonard served in NY militia during the War of 1812. He moved to Zanesville OH (1830 census)and by 1840 was living in Logan City, Hocking Co. Ohio. He is not found in 1850 Census and death not records but is believed to be buried Ohio.

He served in Capt. Samuel Kanady's company of NY Militia from Sept. 8 1812 or Sept 19 1812 (Privates pay for 12 amounted to $2.66.)
