"Betty was the oldest of five daughters born to Emmett Forest Stine and Bessie Maud Jobe. Her father was a policeman in Sheridan, Wy in 1917. 1920 it was just Bessie and her five daughters: Stella May 10, Janet 8, Josephine 5, Margaret 2 and Betty 0/12. The mother died Dec 1928 and Janet assumed responsibility for her three younger children by doing laundry. Her father was still not in the household, but it is known he died 2 March 1935 in California."
