A native of Haywood County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Harvey Mashburn and Margretta Smiley Mashburn, and retired as an associate from K-Mart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Penson in 2004, brothers Jimmy Mashburn, Earl Mashburn, Harvey Mashburn, sisters, Dorthy Buchanan, and Gladys Bowen and three infant daughters.
Survivors include three sisters, Thelma Morton, Sharon Crisp, and Hazel Mashburn, all of Glen Alpine, N.C., a step daughter, Cindy Berryhill and her husband, Ferron of Bostic, a step grandson, Dillon Berryhill, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at two o'clock Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at, The Padgett and King Mortuary.
